A safety nose gives a glossy, even shape in seconds, which is handy on fluffy chenille where a neat embroidered shape takes practice. An embroidered nose has no hard parts, so it is the usual choice for toys for children under three. If you use a safety nose, lock the washer fully and melt the stem tip flat, as the maker recommends.

Which way up does a triangle safety nose go?

Point down, with the wide edge on top, the way a bear's, dog's or cat's nose sits. On a muzzle, place it in the upper half rather than the center, leaving room for an embroidered mouth line underneath. Cats usually look best with a smaller nose than a bear or dog of the same size.
